How many times have you spent your hard earned cash taking your guitar to a store, or even a so-called professional luthier for a setup or repair, only to get home and find yourself less than satisfied that the proper care was taken? Often the results are very disappointing. They just want to get it in and out for quick cash. A love and appreciation for a particular instrument is crucial to working on it and making it be the very best that it can be. Sadly, but quite frankly that kind of caring is just not part of a days work in the field of fast food guitar repair…McLuthiery!
Several years ago I got fed up, not just by the results, but by the neurotic and undependable personalities of many of the different people I trusted my instruments with. I wouldn’t get it back at the agreed upon time, and when I finally did, I could tell it was a rush job, without caring, love, and time spent with the instrument. Sound familiar?
So I started doing research and actually building guitars, and exploring ultimately all aspects of the craft, from woodworking to electronics to nitro cellulose and other types of finishes. I ceaselessly work at this craft, building, doing setup and so forth, simply because there is nothing I enjoy doing more.
And that passion will be felt in each and every instrument I work on, including yours.
Whether it’s grind and polish on the frets, setups guaranteed to making your ax have playing action that you never thought was possible, electronic mods, changing out pickups, finishes and refinishing – you name it, the work will be equal to the best…at substantial savings to the customer.
