The Howland Cultural Center is a Beacon-based nonprofit organization with a multifaceted nature. We promote arts and culture, both by producing our own events and by presenting those sponsored by others. We preserve and operate the historic 1872 Howland Circulating Library building as a center for arts and cultural activities. We also make space available to selected community groups and rent space for private events.

The center is supported mainly through public participation and mostly by volunteer workers. Your attendance at our events helps bring in the income necessary to sustain this work and this place.  Your membership donations also are important.  The center also looks for grants and holds fundraising events.

The Hudson River City of Beacon continues to enjoy a revitalization and has become a magnet for artists and creative people of all kinds. The Howland Cultural Center helped pave the way beginning in 1979 and has continuously played a role in this evolving scene.

Here at the Howland Cultural Center, Beacon’s cultural diversity is embraced and celebrated. Our mission is to promote and encourage local artists of the Hudson Valley and to provide a space where they can exhibit, perform and showcase their unique artistic talents.
