With its music as diverse in content and style as its members are in age, Years Apart is a formidable band, undoubtedly worth a try. They are a four-piece hard rock band who use heavy, melodic undertones stemming from 80’s and current hard rock seamlessly infused with jazz, rap, grunge and some other unidentified ingredients, fused tightly to create a nostalgic, yet distinctly original and well-oiled machine. The band focuses on creating and sharing great music. Indeed that is the focus of nearly every band, but holding tightly to this simple yet effective strategy has yielded very impressive results for Years Apart.
While their focus is simple, the music of Years Apart is quite complex. It takes its listener on a journey that transcends the gamut of human emotion with intense, dredging lyrics and music. Some of their songs elicit the gushier emotions, such as the melancholic ballad “Come Down to Me” with lyrics drenched in pain and sorrow experienced after losing a loved one, and the much happier “Daddy’s little Angel” which as the title suggests, tugs at the heart strings. Others go furiously for the hard emotions, such as “Dom V”. A suspenseful and sinister song of intense anger triggered by pointless violence, provoking a sense of rage which is subsequently quelled with a delivery of justice in “Redemption”. Finally, the listener is faced with emotionally subjective, yet thought-provoking content in “Armed” which denotes the grim thoughts traveling through the mind of a soldier.
All this and much more comes to life with this band. Once you are fully entrenched with the rhythm and start wailing away on your air guitar, you will be thrilled that you came along for the ride!
